Connecting the younger generation with the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast district was the underlying objective of the Northeast Virtual Heritage Competition organised by the Temasek Information Technology School and its community partner the Northeast Community Development Council (NECDC).
Participating students had to conduct research, organise the information collected and create a website to preserve the rich heritage of the Northeast District.
132 students from 13 secondary schools registered for the competition. A 1-day briefing and training workshop was conducted for these participating students and their teachers on 7 Feb 2004. Skills such as information search, organisation and webpage design were taught.
The final competition ceremony to award the top 5 prizes was held on 27 Mar 2004 at Temasek Polytechnic. Gracing the event were Mayor Zainul Abidin Rasheed, the Guest-of-Honour, and PCEO Mr. Boo Kheng Hua.
Temasek Polytechnic was pleased to collaborate with the NECDC on such a meaningful project. It was pleased to help convey that while we go global through technology, our hearts remain connected to Singapore. The awareness of our rich history was a way to help students discover this and identify and appreciate their roots.
