Top Project (Nov 05 Semester) – Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing
Loh Chee Wee, Ong Eng Sheng and Debra Soh from the Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing have developed a system set to revolutionise the way people exercise. They have developed iGym, a personalised training system that allows the user to customise his gym experience.
The iGym system consists of a treadmill, a display monitor and a console that allows the user to customise his immediate environment. The user is able to
- select his choice of scenery to display, movie trailer to watch or type of music to listen to while exercising;
- earn how to use the gym equipment safely and correctly by watching the demonstration video;
- meet his training targets by following the training schedules generated by the system, and
- have a seamless workout as the map display points him to the next training location and available machines. The team hopes to see iGym deployed in public gym centres and private home gyms. Not only that, since the functions of iGym can simulate real environments, the concept can be used in other situations such as Virtual Warfare training for our NS men. Through iGym, they have managed to achieve an intelligent gym which acts according to users’ preferences and helps them to achieve their training targets. With iGym’s ability to enhance the gym user’s experience, they hope that more people will be encouraged to work out and lead a healthy lifestyle.
