2006 - Web Portal for SCGS Library

Top Project (Nov 05 Semester) – Diploma in Information Management

This project was developed by Aqilah Sha’aban, Nur Armillyah Jamil and Shahidah Mohd Samsuri from the Diploma in Information Management. The three developed a Web Portal for the Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) Library to serve as a one-stop library service centre for students. The portal enables the following:

  • Students to browse and reserve books from home
  • Librarians to manage book reservation requests by students efficiently
  • Librarians to generate reports on the popularity index of books in order to track the reading trends among students

The Web Portal also includes other features such as a bulletin board which enables students to view the latest news and updates on the library, as well as read book reviews on its latest collection. There is also a link to the NLB OPAC system. This gives the students access to the collection catalogues of the national libraries in Singapore.

Thus, the SCGS Library Web Portal serves as a convenient one-stop service for the reservation of books available in the library, as well as a comprehensive provider of information on the library. Schools or organisations that wish to convert to a computerised system may wish to model them on the SCGS portal.
